(Double click the map to enlarge the image).The Captain of the Chinese coal carrier Shen Neng One had his vessel 16 kilometres outside the shipping lane going at full speed.
These bastards decided to take a short cut through the reef to save themselves time .
The orange line is the direction the Shen Neng One should have followed. The red line is the track the vessel took. It was obviously trying to make a short cut over pristine reef!
WWF Australian director Gilly Llewellyn said the situation is a ticking environmental time bomb. With 900 tonnes of thick oil in the vessel plus the coal. 2 tugs are trying to balance the vessel, to stop it breaking up.
The Chinese government should be made to pay for the clean-up !
